Google apps are really popular (…in Google’s own store) #chrome

9. December 2010 § Leave a comment

Just checked out the brand new chrome web store (for the less tech-savy audience, that’s the place where Google just started to offer apps for use within its Chrome and other desktop browsers). There’s really nice stuff in there – some of the productivity tools such as Remember the Milk and SlideRocket, Tweetdeck for heavy social media users, or the New York Times, providing a really fresh reading experience. But then, what stroke me as funny: Google itself has most of the most popular items (see screenshot) – tonight, 7 out of 10 “most popular” apps where Google products (including Youtube). That’s neat – setting up a store primarily for your own stuff. Any self-serving bias here? Certainly not, but be aware: The Gmail app, for example, contains nothing else but the current Gmail browser interface as we all know it – or did I overlook something? Quoting “Muzzi” from the user comments: “What? Just a bookmark…. Can make it by myself!”
